The Canada-Caribbean Microgrids Summit is designed to build capacity for microgrid developments through knowledge exchange, technology transfer and business-to-business matchmaking.
The Canada-CARICOM Summit in Ottawa on October 18th 2023 launched a strategic partnership and a funding commitment from the Government of Canada of $64.5 million in new climate financing and $10 million for resilient agriculture systems. The partnership serves as a permanent joint mechanism for dialogue and roadmaps for action.
Aligned with the objectives of this partnership, the Government of Canada has provided support to Decentralised Energy Canada to plan and deliver this Microgrids Summit in The Bahamas to deliver capacity building and technical assistance to enable microgrid projects with a focus on joint business development.

Microgrids are self-contained energy networks comprised of energy generation, demand-side management and energy storage. In 2021, the global microgrid market surpassed 14.3 billion U.S. dollars, a year-over-year growth of 13 percent (Source: Statista Research, 2023). Energy for campuses, hospitals and tourism resorts are becoming more resilient and affordable through microgrids. This session presents the latest information on global microgrid markets and key innovations for microgrid success.
