JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to DEC’s president and working in close collaboration with the rest of the DEC team, the Marketing Communications Manager is a critical position leading the daily communications activities of the organisation. The position is responsible for developing and implementing strategic marketing plans for all of Decentralised Energy Canada’s (DEC’s) programs and activities including our ongoing Energy Innovation Challenge with the City of Medicine Hat, and our event programming, namely, the annual Decentralised Energy Forum (DEF). Our primary audience is industry stakeholders but almost equally important is our work to raise awareness of decentralised energy to the general public. Our work impacts multiple industries and segments of society and therefore requires targeted messaging to distinct stakeholders.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Marketing Communications Manager plays a critical role on the team, as well as having accountability for ensuring progress across three key areas:

  • Communicating about DEC as a whole through various channels, including raising awareness about and understanding of the decentralised energy industry,

  • Supporting marketing communications for the Energy Innovation Challenge, and

  • Supporting DEC events, including our signature annual Decentralised Energy Forum.

 

Specifically, day-to-day accountabilities are included but not limited to: 

Social Media:

Planning and producing compelling content – both written and visual – for our social media channels, primarily LinkedIn and YouTube, working closely with the core management team to ensure messaging is consistent with overall marketing objectives. This includes ensuring graphics are on brand, professional and consistent.

 

Event Management:

Assisting with the planning and managing the promotion of DEC events including but not limited to the annual Decentralised Energy Forum, meetings of the members, webinars, strategic planning sessions, executive retreats, business networking, program launches, and press engagement.

 

Website Administration:

Managing the design and content of DEC’s two primary websites (i.e., www.deassociation.ca & www.deforum.ca). Working closely with the core management team to ensure messaging is consistent with overall marketing and communication objectives.

 

Database Administration:

Maintaining, securing, and operating DEC databases including voting members, full membership, subscribers, and strategic partners.

 

Membership Communications:

Align DEC messaging to represent our membership and to meet the membership needs including support for our monthly online Newsletter. Occasionally design and deliver member surveys and membership campaigns.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • A post-secondary diploma or degree in marketing, communications and/or business.

  • At least 3 years of demonstrated/proven experience in marketing or communications roles.

  • Experienced with communications strategies, and how to effectively implement them.

  • Proficiency in using social media management tools, analytics platforms, and graphic design software such as Canva or Podcastle. Proficiency in Squarespace to provide web content updates and email marketing support.

  • Strong writer who is able to translate technical concepts into understandable messages for social media distribution, website content and newsletter content.

  • Experience managing LinkedIn content and community, including appropriate use of hashtags and tagging.

  • Ability to design graphics for use in social media content and publications, like infographics, maintaining branding standards.

  • Understanding of the decentralised energy industry, or the energy industry in general, would be considered an asset.

TERMS OF THE POSITION

Work flexibility is important to DEC. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and can be a Contracted or Employee. Please note that as an Employee, DEC only offers government-mandated benefits such as CPP and sick pay, we do not have health or dental benefits.
