Canada-Caribbean Microgrid Trade Accelerator

Co-hosted by Decentralised Energy Canada and the Rocky Mountain Institute

For over five years Decentralised Energy Canada (DEC) and the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) have been collaborating to accelerate the transition to resilient, efficient and affordable energy systems. This program will stimulate international trade and leverage the competitiveness of Canada's decentralised energy industry. Funding has been generously provided by Global Affairs Canada's CanExport Program.

The primary objective is to connect quality Canadian companies to real microgrid project opportunities in the Caribbean and to facilitate the development of meaningful business partnerships. Microgrid solution providers from Canada and the Caribbean are participating in this program.

We are actively engaging Caribbean microgrid stakeholders, such as community planners, hospitals, schools, investors and government.

About the Global Matchmaker Program

DEC’s Global Matchmaker Program is generously supported by Global Affairs Canada’s CanExport Program. Our International Business Development Strategy governs DEC’s international activities with a goal to stimulate international trade and thereby leverage the competitiveness of Canada’s decentralised energy industry.

Our activities connect quality Canadian companies to international markets through highly facilitated virtual and in-person activities. Program partners include credible network hubs specific to each market. Local partnerships ensure that CDN companies are connected to prequalified and derisked trade opportunities.

We have delivered virtual trade activities in Nigeria and the Caribbean. Trade missions and incoming buyers’ missions are under development for 2023 and 2024 pending program approval.

DEC’s vision and mandate are anchored in the principles of sustainability. All of our programs are designed to support decentralised energy solutions that demonstrate long term sustainability while protecting ecological, human, and economic health and vitality. We support the UN Sustainable Development Goals and are continuously committed to the advancement of sustainability standards to strengthen Canada’s international competitiveness.
