Series 2: Canada – Caribbean Microgrid Trade Network
Series 2: Caribbean Microgrid Projects
In Partnership with the Rocky Mountain Institute and Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service
Lessons learned from Canadian microgrid projects represented a unique opportunity for Canada and the Caribbean to work together to match applicable technologies, facilitate new business relationships, mitigate project development risks, and increase the pace of microgrid construction in the Caribbean.
Over the course of this program, DEC had the pleasure of connecting Canadian microgrid technologies to export opportunities in the Caribbean market through a series of presentations and curated B2B meetings. The Caribbean has an important role to play in microgrid development evidenced by increased severity of extreme natural disasters that have wiped out entire electrical systems. However, the drivers of microgrid development are also the source of financial constraints. While the islands are still recovering from the impacts of hurricanes Dorian, Maria and Irma, COVID-19 is compounding creating debilitating economic challenges.
