Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative
Bow Valley Green Energy Cooperative (BVGEC) is a socially responsible organization that aims to facilitate the creation of community-owned renewable energy generation projects in the Bow Valley. We are volunteer-led and proud to be the first community generator to install community-owned solar in Alberta.
At BVGEC, we believe that Albertans can have an inclusive and prosperous local economy while contributing to a healthy environment. As an Opportunity Development Cooperative, BVGEC is uniquely positioned to enable our members to invest in renewable energy projects, and return dividends locally. BVGEC uses these investment funds to install renewable energy systems on host properties. We then sell 100% of the energy generated by the system to the host property. All profits from the agreement are channelled back into BVGEC to facilitate new renewable energy installations, provide dividends and bolster our community social benefits fund.
BVGEC recently launched Rocky Mountain Community Energy (RMCE), to provide a fully integrated energy supply service for Albertan homes, businesses and our host sites. What differentiates RMCE is the commitment to return profits from this enterprise into financing more local renewable energy projects via BVGEC, which directly reduces the carbon intensity of the grid and advances Alberta’s energy transition.
