Electronic Grid Systems (eGrid) is developing a direct current (DC) grid technology that enables electric utilities to boost the power capacity that can be delivered to residential homes using existing cable infrastructure. As electric vehicles (EV’s) become more prevalent, eGrid’s DC upgrade solution will allow electric utilities to upgrade/retrofit existing infrastructure with 70% lower costs to keep up with rising power demand. eGrid is currently working with FortisAlberta, ENMAX, Lethbridge Electric Utility on a pilot project. The pilot project has received funding support from Alberta Innovates. Together, the team will build the first low voltage DC grid in North America.
