Governments of Canada and Ukraine Look to Industry for Support to Restore Ukrainian Energy Infrastructure

The energy ministers of Canada and Ukraine have issued an urgent appeal for support in restoring Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in light of renewed attacks by Russia. The two countries have an agreement that contemplates both government and industry involvement in efforts to support Ukraine.

The most effective ways to support the effort are through a financial contribution or the provision of replacement equipment compatible with Ukrainian standards. The Ukraine Energy Support Fund is the preferred channel for financial support. It is reliable, transparent, and effective. The Energy Community manages the Fund. Donors can direct the funds to areas of interest to them or to companies that Ukraine deems eligible, otherwise, the funds will be directed to the most urgent needs. Donors may also request public acknowledgement of their contribution.

The Ukraine Ministry of Energy maintains an “evergreen” list of energy equipment necessary. That list, as well as other important documents, can be reached through the links below. Energy Community and Energize Ukraine manage the shipping logistics for equipment donated from Canada.

Please spread the word to your colleagues about this appeal. If you have questions, please contact Anneta Lytvynenko of NRCan’s Ukraine Taskforce. She can be reached at anneta.lytvynenko@nrcan-rncan.gc.ca.
