TransAlta Corporation submitted a notification to the AUC (Proceeding 27139) to discontinue the operation of Sundance 4, effective April 1, 2022 and stated it will no longer pursue repowering the unit to 435 MW (AUC Proceeding 25745-D02).
The AESO posted its 2022 Long-term Plan ("LTP") and provided notice of its upcoming stakeholder information session taking place on Thursday, March 3rd, 2022 at 10:30am. The AESO will present its plan to develop Alberta's electricity transmission system over the next 20 years, including its highest priorities. The LTP is based on an enhanced risk-based modelling approach that has resulted in a $1 billion deferral in capital spending for several years.
TA Alberta Hydro Inc., general partner of TransAlta's TA Alberta Hydro LP, submitted an application to the AUC (Proceeding 27109) to constuct and operate a 180 MW energy storage facility. The project will provide one to two hours of energy with 360 MWh of storage capacity. It will be co-located and behind-the-fence at the Ghost Hydro electric plant and is expected to be in service by December 31, 2023.
The AESO published its Q1 2022 Energy Storage Forum Update 7. There are three ES connected projects and 19 ES projects in the queue, 10 of which have in service dates in 2022.
The AUC scheduled its second roundtable regarding reduction of regulatory burden for March 10th, 2022 at 9:30am to gather insights from stakeholders regarding key efficiency measures and regulatory processes. To register, email Leslie Diebolt at leslie.diebolt@auc.ab.ca. Stakeholders have the opportunity to file submissions by March 2, 2022.
The AESO is performing a re-affirmation study to update its congestion forecast to determine whether the first stage of the Central East Transfer-out ("CETO") should be triggered. Stakeholders can register for an information session to discuss study assumptions being held on February 23rd at 9:00am.
