Highlights of Alberta's Generation Sector March Edition

  • Alberta set a new peak electrical load of 11,729 MW at 7pm on February 9, 2021. The peak was an increase of 31 MW over last January's record.

  • The AUC has set oral hearing dates of March 9, 10, and 11th for its DCG Credit Proceeding 26090.

  • BowArk Energy Ltd.'s request (AUC Proceeding 26280) for an interim time extension to construct its 34 MW Drywood Generating Plant Power Addition until November 30, 2021 has been approved.

  • The AESO is requesting comments by March 31, 2021 for its Proposed Amendments to ISO rules to Enable Energy Storage.

  • Razor Energy Corp. applied (AUC Proceeding 26337) for a time extension to complete its 21 MW Co-Produced Geothermal Power Project from March 31, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

  • TransAlta vows to be carbon neutral by 2050. It will also cut greenhouse gas emissions to 60% below 2015 levels by 2030.

  • The AUC has released the final report of its Distribution System Inquiry (Proceeding 24116) which examined the need to modernize Alberta's distribution system to realize benefits from advancing distributed technologies. Chair Carolyn Dahl Rees also issued a response to the Report outlining actions the AUC will take to "address identified undue regulatory barriers to new technology adoption".
