Highlights of Alberta's Generation Sector April Edition

  • ENMAX Generation Portfolio Inc. requested and was approved (AUC Proceeding 26371) to extend the completion date of the Crossfield 10MW - 4.3 MWh lithium-ion battery from February 28th to September 30, 2021. The storage project was originally approved (AUC Proceeding 25835) in August of 2020 to alter the operation of the plant by providing a start augmentation hybrid package.

  • The AESO posted a Bill Impact Tool v0.4 following its March 25, 2021 Bulk and Regional Tariff Design Session 5. The bill impact tool allows ratepayers to assess the impact of the AESO's Preferred Rate Design published on March 18, 2021.

  • Kirkcaldy Solar Energy Partnership, by its general partner Horus Solar Alberta Ltd., applied (AUC Proceeding 26395) to construct the Kirkcaldy Solar Energy Centre (KSEC), a 350 MWac solar farm, substation and collection system located 7 km south of the Town of Vulcan. The project is expected to be online by November 1, 2022.

  • The AUC announced that it is revising Rule 007: Applications for Power Plants, Substations, Transmission Lines, Industrial System Designations and Hydro Developments, effective September 1, 2021. A copy of the revised version is available on the AUC Rule 007 Consultation Page. It will hold a virtual workshop on April 22, 2021 to review the changes.

  • The AESO released its 2021-Q2 2022 Plan for Market-Related Initiatives and is requesting that stakeholder's submit a Stakeholder Comment Matrix by April 20, 2021.

  • Solar Krafte Utilities Inc. applied (AUC Proceeding 26435) to construct a 400MWac Brooks Solar Farm 6.5 km west of the City of Brooks. The project is expected to be online by February 28th, 2023.
