Highlights of Alberta's Generation Sector

The AESO released additional information on Impacts to Rates, Calculation of XOS/XOM Rates, and the Release of DTS, FTS, Peak Load and Peak Generation Data as stakeholder engagement for its Bulk and Regional Tariff Design process.

  • Pattern ULC submitted a Letter of Inquiry (AUC Proceeding 26832) requesting amendments to its previous AUC Approval 22736 regarding its 281 MW Lanfine North and Lanfine South Wind Power Projects. Among other things, Pattern is requesting that the 4.3 MW Vestas V150 be installed rather than the 3.6 MW Vestas V136, lowering the capacity to 276 MW. Lanfine North is expected to be in service by Q4 2022, with Lanfine South being completed in 2024.

  • The AESO is requesting stakeholders provide comments on its 2022 Budget Review Process by September 10, 2021.

  • The AUC approved (AUC Proceeding 25469) the AESO's Need Identification Document, as well as ATCO and Altalink's Facility Applications for the Central East Transfer-out Transmission Development (CETO). The first circuit is expected to be in service in 2025.

  • Pteragen Canada Inc. submitted an application to the AUC (Proceeding 26787) for its 122 MW Peace Butte Wind Power Project. The project is located near the Village of Seven Persons, about 22 km south of Medicine Hat. The project is proposing to install 22 Enercon E-160 5.54 MW wind turbines and is expected to be online by Q4 2023. The project was originally approved under AUC Approval U2013-225.

  • Agrium Inc. has applied to the AUC (Proceeding 26825) to construct and operate a 30 MW cogeneration facility at its Redwater Fertilizer Manufacturing Plant. The facility is located approximately 12 km south of Redwater in Sturgeon County and will consist of two Solar Titan 130s. It is expected to be online by Q4 of 2023.
