RVM The Generator (Copy)

  • The AESO published new proposed Generating Unit Owner's Contribution ("GUOC") rates to be filed with its 2023 ISO Tariff in November 2022 and to be effective Janauary 1, 2023.

    1. Foothills Solar LP submitted an application (AUC Proceeding 27486) to construct and operate its 150 MWac Foothills Solar Project located west of the Hamlet of Blackie. The project is expected to be online by Q4, 2023.

    2. EnerMerge Ops Ltd. submitted an application (AUC Proceeding 27435) to construct and operate a 10.3MW natural gas tri-generation power plant. The facility is located in Lacombe County near Gull Lake. It will provide power, heat, and CO2 to an existing greenhouse operation along with two existing generating facilities.The AUC closed the application due to major deficiencies including no noise impact assessment, no connection statement from Fortis Alberta, no emissions modelling summary, and no submitted environmental studies or protection plan.

    3. Heartland Generation Ltd. requested and was granted approval (Proceeding 27459) to salvage works associated with Battle River Unit 3, Unit 4, and Unit 5.  Unit 3 will be dismantled and removed and Units 4 and 5 will have their coal and ash handling equipment removed, meaning that Unit 4 will no longer operate as dual fuelled.  The work is expected to be complete by December 31, 2024. 

    4. The AESO published 2022 loss factors to be effective January 1, 2023 that include WHE1, which did not satisfy the inclusion criteria when the loss factors where orginally published.

    5. Heartland Generation Ltd. and TransAlta requested and were granted approval (Proceeding 27460) to permanently dismantle the coal and ash handling equipment of Sheerness Unit's 1 and 2. The work is expected to be complete by December 31, 2025.

    6. The AESO published its Net-Zero Emissions Pathways report was published setting out supply and demand combinations that might enable Alberta reach a net-zero electricity grid by 2035.  The report includes a Power BI Dashboard that provides data and forecasts used in the analysis.

    SR Scotford Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Silicon Ranch Corporation, submitted an application (AUC Proceeding 27314) to construct and operate the 58 MW Scotford Solar Power Project, located 14 km northeast of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. It will connect within the existing Scotford Industrial System Designation to reduce the consumption of gas-fired generation. The project is expected to be online by Q4, 2023.
