  • TransAlta announced it will end operations at Highvale thermal coal mine by the end of 2021 as it discontinues firing with coal at Keephills Unit 1 and Sundance Unit 4. This will reduce the maximum capacity of these units: Keephills Unit 1 from 395 MW to 70MW, and Sundance Unit 4 from 406 MW to 113 MW. The conversion of Sundance Unit 6 is expected to be complete this month and the company has issued full notice to proceed for the conversion of Keephills Unit 2 and Unit 3. The repowering of Sundance Unit 5 (AUC Approval 25239-D01-2020) has received Board Approval and is on track for Q4 2023.

  • Maxim Power Corporation, through its subsidiary Milner Power Inc., submitted a time extension request (AUC Proceeding 26046) amending the completion date of the Milner 86 MW Cogeneration Power Plant, originally approved under AUC Approval 3420-D01-2015, from December 31, 2019 to December 31, 2023.

  • Travers Solar LP, through its general partner Travers Solar GP Ltd. received approval (AUC Proceeding 25954) to increase the capacity of the Travers Solar Power Plant from 400 MW to 465 MW.

  • The AESO posted replies to take away questions from the September 8 2020 AESO Connection Process Presentation.

  • TransAlta's 10MW/20MWh WindCharger Battery Storage project began commercial operation on October 15, 2020.

  • The AESO has issued an invitation and draft agenda for a Technical Meeting on Loss Factor Activities to be held on November 20, 2020 via Zoom, as well as updates and a notice of intent to request guidance on Module C Interest Calculation from the AUC.
