  • The AUC rejected the AESO's application (AUC Proceeding 27047) for its Adjusted Metering Practice Implementation Plan and amendments to Rule 502.10 "Revenue Metering System Technical and Operating Requirements". The AUC found that "the AESO did not provide sufficient information for the Commission to determine if the approval of the application was in the public interest or supported the fair, efficient and openly competitive operation of the electricity market" and that the application "lacked accurate information regarding cost estimates and information justifying the timing differences between substation categories."

  • The AESO posted its Energy Storage Engagement and Progress Update. Comments on its New and Amended ISO Rules are due June 9, 2022 to rules_comments@aeso.ca.

  • Enfinite LP submitted an application (AUC Proceeding 27360) to construct and operate its 40 MW eReserve 7/8 battery storage facility.  The project is located approximtely 4 km west of the community of Wapiti in the MD of Greenview, Alberta. The project consists of eReserve 7 (20 MW) and eReserve 8 (20 MW), will provide a total of 80 MWh of storage, and will connect to the ATCO Wapiti 523S Substation.  It is expected to be on line by April 1st, 2023. 

  • Paintearth Wind Project LP submitted a Letter of Enquiry (AUC Proceeding 27389) to amend its 151 MW Paintearth Wind Project including increasing its nameplate capacity to 198 MW, changing the wind turbine to the 145 5.0 MW Siemens Gamesa, and extending completion from April 2023 to June 2024.

  • The AESO posted a Stakeholder Comments Summary from its March 28th, 2022 Net-Zero Emissions Pathwasys Stakeholder session. The AESO will issue its Net-ZEro Emissions Pathways Report at the end of June.  Stakeholders can register for a summary session to be held on June 29th, 2022.

  • NaturEner Wild Rose 2 Energy Inc. applied to the AUC (Proceeding 27412) to transfer the holder of plant and substation approval (AUC Proceeding 26937) to WR2 Wind GP Corp., general partner of Wild Rose 2 Wind LP and an indirect subsidiary of Capstone Infrastructure Corporation.

  • Tidewater Midstream and Infrastructure Ltd. submitted an application (AUC Proceeding 27418) for an exemption to Section 11 of the Hydro and Electricity Energy Act to expand its Pipestone Power Plant (AUC Proceeding 23533) from 35.4 MW to 68.4 MW with the addition of two Solar Titan 130 gas turbines and two waste heat recovery units. The facility is located at the Pipestone Gas Plant, 20 km southwest of Grande Prairie and is electrically isolated from the grid.  The expansion is expected to be on line by December 2023.
