Wind and solar power are on the rise. They are the fasted growing source of electricity around the world. One barrier to adding significant new wind and solar sources to our electricity grid and energy supply is storage.

In episode eight of ERA’s Carbon Copy podcast, we sat down with Dan Martin and Chelsea Donelon from TransAlta to learn more about how the WindCharger project addresses how and where to store energy when the air is still. This is the first of a two-part series on electric energy storage called The Zero Carbon Grid.

WindCharger consists of three Tesla lithium-ion battery storage groupings, capable of holding 20 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity. This type of technology will support broader adoption of renewable energy by enhancing reliability. ERA committed $11 million to the project.

Hosted by Dr. Mark Summers, ERA’s Chief Strategy Officer, Carbon Copy takes a closer look at the technologies and people that will change our climate impact and help reshape Alberta’s economy.
