MONTREAL, QUE. – WSP in Canada has been awarded the detailed design contract for two hydrogen production and refueling facilities in Alberta.
The facilities are located in Calgary and Edmonton and are being built to support Canadian Pacific’s (CP) hydrogen locomotive program.
The projects are led by ATCO Group who were awarded an engineering, procurement and construction services contract from CP. The hydrogen infrastructure at each CP site will include a one MW electrolyzer, compression, storage and dispensing for locomotive refueling. The electrolyzer in Calgary will in part be powered by renewable electricity from CP’s existing five MW solar power facility co-located at CP’s headquarters.
“Low carbon intensity hydrogen has the potential to be an integral part of Canada’s clean energy mix in the decades ahead. Our team is proud to play an important role in Canada’s energy transition, helping companies develop new resources for the transition to a low-emission economy,” said WSP in Canada energy, resources and industry executive vice-president Satvinder Flore in a press release.
