July’s Highlights of Alberta's Generation Sector

  • Barlow Solar Park Ltd., as a part of the DP Energy group, applied to the AUC for approval (AUC Proceeding 25682) to construct a 27MW Solar PV Project within the City of Calgary.

  • The AUC issued its first Annual Report Card, quantifying the benefits of its initiatives to reduce regulatory burden and improve efficiency.   

  • Capital Power received AUC approval (AUC Decision 25656-D01-2020) to rescind its approval of the Genesee 4 & 5 project, a proposed 1060MW combined cycle power plant that it owns jointly with ENMAX.

  • The AESO is requesting stakeholder comments on its Market-Related Initiatives on or before July 17, 2020.

  • TERIC Power Ltd. applied to the AUC for approval (AUC Proceeding 25691) to construct the 20MW eReserve2 Battery Energy Storage Project to be located 20 KM north of the Village of Irma near the Buffalo Creek 526S Substation. The project will discharge into the local distribution system upon and will charge from the Alberta electricity grid. 

  • The AUC announced the appointment of Carolyn Dahl Rees as interim chair, replacing departing chair and Commission member Mark Kolesar.

  • Capital Power Generation Services Inc. received approval  (AUC Proceeding 25623) for its requested time extensions related to the conversion of Genesee Units 1,2 and 3 to dual fuel due to delays related to managing COVID-19.  The application requests the completion time for G1 be amended from July 1 to December 1, 2021, G2 to be amended one year to July 1, 2021, and G3 to be amended from November 1, 2020 to September 30, 2021.

  • The AESO has introduced two new procedures for managing Available Transfer Capability on the combined British Columbia and Montana transfer path.
