Student Work Placement Program

Student Workplace Program.JPG

The Student Work Placement Program gives post-secondary students across Canada paid work experience related to their field of study.

How the program works

ESDC works with Employer Delivery Partners. Employer Delivery Partners are a group of recognized associations and organizations that represent the interests of employers in industries.

They work with businesses and post-secondary education institutions to:

  • provide wage subsidies to employers that offer quality student work placements, and

  • create partnerships with colleges, universities, polytechnics and CEGEPs to recruit students for these placements

There are a number of different internship programs under the Student Work Placement Program. These typically offer 50% of the intern’s salary up to $5000. Internships typically last 12-16 weeks in either the winter (January – April), summer (May – August), or fall (September – December). Interns must be a student in a registered post-secondary institution. Deciding which program to pursue depends on the position that needs to be filled. Employers can request more than one internship from the programs below.

  • Venture for Canada – No specific position required; aimed at giving the intern entrepreneurial experience. *Consider this as a way to bring on a business/MBA student to help with marketing or business development.

  • ICTC WIL Digital - Artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, fintech, intelligent retail and advanced manufacturing. WIL Digital can also be used for business development and digital marketing.

  • EcoCanada - Focus on science, technology, engineering, arts, math (STEAM) and business.

  • TECHNATION Career Ready Program – Any tech-related position; opening mid-February for summer applications.

  • BioTalent – Focus on biotechnology.
